Food for Thought: Garlo’s Aussie Pie Shop

garlos1You’ll want to open your pie hole for these savory meat pies from down unda! Whether it be for a snack or meal, I am totally on board with this food concept: a flaky filo dough pie crust filled with curried ground beef in a nice little aluminum tin for $3.95. Well, that was the menu item that had my name on it but there are other options –from a classic chicken pot pie ($4.95) to breakfast pies to dessert pies like apple or custard. Of course the kiddies were just as enthusiastic about this Westwood Village spot that served as lunch during our initial visit.

This is Garlo’s first U.S. store, a family-owned $10M/year operation that’s planning to roll out branded pie shops across America in the coming months. Using their Rugby league nickname, the Sydney-based business bakes everything fresh daily. Lunch and dinner are served every day but breakfast ends when the morning batch of “hand-held Aussie meals” sells out.

Throw another meat pie on the table because we will no doubt be back time and again!
