As we settled into one of the coveted windowfront tables at Water Grill’s Santa Monica location on Ocean Ave. (the flagship outpost is in downtown L.A.), it occurred to me that we really enjoy our seafood as a family unit. And there’s no better place to get some quality pescado than this striking restaurant with its very scenic views of the Pacific and passers-by on the sidewalk just outside the open windows.
This was Irene’s birthday lunch celebration so she ordered one of her favorite fish dishes – Wild Alaskan Black Cod “Miso” ($28). The boys went for their go-to fish & chips while Athena had grilled salmon (nice portions for kids meals (from $7 -$12). I did an oyster sampler ($15.75) and we toasted with beer and lemonade. And let’s not forget some of the best warm bread and butter this side of La Brea Bakery.
Diners digging into whole lobsters and raw/chilled shellfish towers are common sights at Water Grill. After making quick work of our delicious lunch, Irene was served a complimentary birthday dessert of brownie-cookie a la mode that the kiddies happily helped her demolish.
