Image(s) of the Month: Captain Cooperstown

A well-deserved round of applause for Baseball Hall of Fame’s newest inductee, The Captain, Derek Jeter, who just missed becoming only the second player to be unanimously voted into Cooperstown; he received 99.7% of the Baseball Writers’ Association votes, good enough for the No. 2 spot behind ex-Yankee teammate Mariano Rivera, who is the only player in the history of baseball to get 100% of the votes. Jeter himself paid homage to his 20-year career with this answer to the final question at the induction press conference:

Reporter: “When you look back on your career, what are you most proud of?”

Jeter: “I’m most proud that I was a Yankee. It’s the only thing I ever I wanted to do since as long as I can remember, was play shortstop for the New York Yankees. And I had an opportunity to do that for a long time, and when it’s all said and done, that’s what I’m most proud of.”
